Hey Hunger-Free Family!
Caroline, a member of our hunger-free family, is running for a reason this year in the Houston Marathon! Read below her interview with us and get a window into her story and why she runs for us. Happy Friday!
Why did you decide to run for Kids’ Meals?
Caroline: In 2018 I decided to sign up for the Aramco Houston Half Marathon with a Run For A Reason charity. Earlier in the year I had started volunteering with a few hunger-related causes, and the mission of Kids’ Meals immediately stood out to me as a cause I would like to align with. Kids’ Meals is an amazing organization that makes a profound impact on the community I live in, which is why I chose to run with the team again and do my small part to fundraise for Kids’ Meals life-changing programs!
What has the fundraising process been like?
Caroline: I am very lucky to have an extremely supportive and generous community. I am originally from southern California and went to school in Boston, so my network of friends and family is widespread and loves being able to support me from afar by donating to Kids’ Meals! I am so grateful for the encouragement and love I have received every year from my extended network, near & far!
What is one takeaway you’ve learned in fundraising for Kids’ Meals?
Caroline: The best thing that has come out of my fundraising with Kids’ Meals is that I have learned a lot more about the organization and the many different ways that they impact the lives of Houston’s littlest residents and their families. I have been able to engage with a lot of people, and introduce Kids’ Meals to many friends, family, and coworkers who previously had never heard of the organization! Last year I hosted a small volunteer day at my workplace where we put together non-perishable lunch packs for Kids’ Meals, which was another great way to spread the Kids’ Meals love to another group in Houston!
What does Kids’ Meals been to you?
Caroline: Supporting Kids’ Meals is the first step in creating a Houston in which everyone can achieve more! Proper food and nutrition from an early age is so important to development, security, and overall well-being. The work Kids’ Meals does in delivering meals for Houston’s youngest residents is a huge first step in improving their futures. In supporting Kids’ Meals, I know I am supporting the basic needs of so many, which in turn will allow the children impacted to grow, succeed, and live to their fullest potential.
