Dear Hunger-Free Family-
As a devoted supporter of Kids’ Meals, we want to let you know the steps we are taking to safely deliver food to the children who need it most. Kids’ Meals is ramping up operations and needs donors and volunteers now more than ever due to the effects of COVID-19.
I want to assure you that Kids’ Meals is in a strong position to lead and serve the hungry children in our community. We are committed to making sure Houston’s children have the nutrition they need and receive the same uninterrupted level of service we have provided for 13 years.
OUR CHILDREN
Poverty-stricken families are impacted significantly by fluctuations in the economy and changes in work hours. Most low-income families operate with no financial cushion and no food reserves, so reduced hours, a postponed job, or layoffs can cause families on the financial edge to suffer greatly and be unable to feed their children.
We are mobilizing to deliver more than 6,000 meals every day next week for our children and their school-aged siblings who are on spring break. We are strategizing on how we can best meet the needs of children from low-income families not currently on our program during this unprecedented health crisis. We anticipate an influx in children in need of meals as families feel the economic impact. If a family works in the impacted industries or owns a small business that counts on income from major events that are being cancelled, their ability to provide food for their children can be an issue. We want families to know that (thanks to you) we are here for them.
OUR VOLUNTEERS
The health and safety of our children, volunteers, staff and supporters is paramount to Kids’ Meals. We always follow industry best practices for cleanliness and sanitary operating procedures like hand washing, gloves, hand sanitizer, limiting contact, and have increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting our high-traffic areas.
If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be so well positioned to address the needs of food insecure children, and for that, we thank you!
