In September 2018, the Board approved Kids\u2019 Meals\u2019 first ever Pilot Route Expansion outside of Harris County after a lengthy review and research process. This is Kids\u2019 Meals 7th route expansion since 2006, but the first in Montgomery County where 10,830 preschool-aged children face debilitating hunger. In addition to feeding poverty-stricken children, part of the pilot\u2019s purpose is creating a replicable expansion model that will one day lengthen our reach to every Houston zip code in need.<\/p>\n
The initial phase is relationship building and fundraising in The Woodlands\/Tomball area with a launch in March 2019 delivering meals to the homes of children under age 6 living in the 77354 zip code. The expansion team identified approximately 1,000 children in the zip code who meet our program criteria.\u00a0 This route will target an initial group of 50 children, and as support grows, projects to grow to 200 children by year-end 2019.<\/p>\n
Who are committed community partners? <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
We are thankful for leadership investments from- Purepoint Financial and Waste Connections, and we are thankful for their investment in the community.<\/p>\n
Partners in the initiative include; Montgomery County Food Bank, Silver Springs Baptist Church, The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church, The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce, and we are talking with many other entities.<\/p>\n
How will meals be made\/delivered? <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
This route expansion will be staffed by volunteers with meals being made at Silver Creek Baptist Church. Kids\u2019 Meals has assigned one of our vans to deliver meals until funds are raised to buy a van. One driver will be hired and volunteers will deliver, too.<\/p>\n
Who is eligible to receive meals? <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
Families must meet the federal poverty guideline, have a child under age 6, and live in 77354.<\/p>\n
What resources are shared with families? <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
Food pantries, early child education, English as a second language classes, GED attainment information, job training, clothing banks, financial planning, food pantries, healthcare, dental care, education support and more.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
