July 11, 2024 \u2013 Houston <\/span><\/b>\u2013 Kids’ Meals<\/span>, Inc.<\/span>, a Houston nonprofit on a mission to end childhood hunger, <\/span>is celebrating its 18<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span> anniversary<\/span> this July<\/span> in <\/span>a special way<\/span>: reaching a milestone of delivering <\/span>over <\/span>15 million <\/span>lifetime <\/span>meals. The nonprofit\u2019s mission has been the same since 2006 –<\/span> delivering free<\/span>,<\/span> healthy meals to the doorsteps of Greater Houston\u2019s hungriest preschool-aged children <\/span>– but <\/span>has <\/span>experienced <\/span>unprecedented growth since.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kids\u2019 Meals started with two delivery vans to service four zip codes in 2006 and now <\/span>leverages<\/span> 22 delivery vans and five times the<\/span> original<\/span> number<\/span> of volunteers to serve 56 zip codes.<\/span> The expansion has added up to 15.3 million meals served to children facing debilitating hunger, while in a critical development <\/span>period<\/span> and who are too young to access school-based free meal programs<\/span>. <\/span>The organization <\/span>i<\/span>s <\/span>on track<\/span> to deliver a record-setting 2.7 million meals just this year alone.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The increased scale and need led Kids\u2019 Meals <\/span>to outgrow its <\/span>existing <\/span>space and to embark on its <\/span><\/span>Building Hope<\/span><\/span><\/a> capital campaign<\/span> for a new<\/span>, 50,000 square-foot, <\/span>purpose-built facility<\/span>, which <\/span><\/span>broke ground<\/span><\/span><\/a> earlier this year<\/span> and is slated to open in mid-2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
